Design and Performance

The Assault Rifle is like the definition of all assault rifles but is outclassed by the in the game. It is based on the real-life Norinco Type 56-2, also known as the AK-56, which is very similar to the AK-47 and the AK-74. The shape and design of the gun are just like that of its real-life counterpart. It can be used with a scope, suppressor, flashlight, and grip. It has Picatinny rails for the same. It does not feature any wooden panels and has a full metal finish.

The Assault Rifle is an excellent weapon for close and medium range encounters and gunfights. It can be fitted with a scope, grip, suppressor, and a flashlight that makes it usable in a wide range of scenarios. It is not accurate while shooting at long ranges even with a scope. The grip, however, makes it stable enough to spray at medium ranges. It takes three shots to the body with armor to kill a target. Pedestrians are taken down in two shots to the body at medium range and one shot at close range. An extended clip can be used with this weapon which increases the ammunition capacity to 60 rounds.

Trivia

The extended magazine for the Assault Rifle is modeled after a 40-round magazine, in contrast to the in-game 60-round capacity. In GTA IV, when the player shoots the Assault Rifle, Niko will have his mouth open like he was screaming or shouting. In the enhanced version, the weapon had a bug resulting in the rate of fire increasing to that of a Minigun. This glitch occurred when the player was in first-person-view and aimed down the sights. This bug has been patched.
