CHAMPS

PRESENTED BY The Ray Guy Award and Lou Groza Award watch lists were announced on Wednesday. The Ray Guy Award is given to the nation's top punter. There are 25 players on the preseason watch list including Texas A&M punter Drew Kaser, the only finalist from last season on this year's watch list. The Augusta Sports Council created the Ray Guy Award in 2000 to honor the College Football Hall of Fame inductee. The winner is determined by a national voting body of sports writers, college coaches, sports information directors, and past Ray Guy Award winners. Among the statistics used to choose the winner is net punting average, number of times a punt is downed or kicked out of bounds inside the opponents' 20-yard line, total yardage punted, average returned yardage and percentage of punts not returned. The winner must display team leadership, self-discipline and have a positive impact on the team’s success. The Palm Beach County Sports Commission announced the watch list for the Lou Groza Award, which is given to the country's best place-kicker. Florida State sophomore Roberto Aguayo headlines the 30-player watch list as he looks to become only the second repeat winner in Groza Award history. Related:
