Very little is known about his childhood and Kiji’s past as it is still shrouded in mystery. Due to his limited appearances in the series, close to nothing is known about his lineage or background other than the fact that he is a genin of the Benisu Island.
Kiji first appeared in Paradise Life on a Boat Arc. Kiji, his brother , and came upon , , , and (protagonist of the series) while on a quest to gather herbs from Nanakusa Island, a similar goal to their own. They offered to let the shinobi from the Village Hidden in the Leaves pay for some of what they had gathered as they had already collected the majority of the supplies on the island. The Hidden Leaf shinobi declined their offer. They headed out, claiming they could acquire everything from every spot on the island before the Hidden Leaf shinobi.
Kiji and his team were attacked by a big lizard after they had collected the last item on their list and were eventually saved by Naruto when the teams reunited after arriving at their destination on the island. Kiji and his brother were startled when Bando, who was grateful to him, gave them a portion of the island's harvest without charge. They questioned the appreciative Hidden Leaf shinobi as he departed and he replied that he was willing to take a loss now in exchange for rewards in the future.
Kiji has not appeared since this occurrence and thus his absence makes it impossible to say for sure whether he is dead or alive. He is currently assumed to be alive and well unless any information surfaces indicating otherwise.
