The details of Anato's past are rather mysterious. Very little is known about his upbringing or his skills. In the anime, he only made a few brief appearances. He is just a part of the Boruto anime and does not appear or receive any mentions in the Boruto: Naruto Next Generations manga, making him a non-canon character in the series.
He made his anime debut in the Kara Actuation Arc of Boruto: Naruto Next Generations in episode 158, "The Man Who Disappeared." In the Arc, Anato was introduced as a researcher who worked in the Medical Care Manufacturing Company located in the Land of Valleys. At the time, Victor was the president of the Medical Care Manufacturing Company and was also secretly part of the secret criminal organization, Kara.
Anato was a member of a research team researching the cells of , also referred to as the God of Shinobi and the First Hokage of Konohagakure (Village Hidden in the Leaves). Anato's body was changed at the cellular level and he turned into a ferocious beast after being infected by Hashirama Senju's cells. After being infected, Anato proceeded to slaughter the crew of his research team. Later, Team 7 of Konohagakure, led by and consisting of , , and , found him. At the request of Anato's wife, Mia, Team 7 was assigned to this assignment. After successfully locating him, Team 7 tried to restrain him but failed in this task. Later. Victor's team arrived at the scene and incapacitated Anato. His body was properly examined once Victor's crew brought him back to the medical center. After being infected and gaining a mutated body, his outfit remained the same but it was torn in places. He wore his shirt open with its sleeves torn apart. His pants remained almost the same but were rough around the edges and he lost his sandals and remained barefoot.
