PRESENTED BY JACKSON, Miss. -- The Jackson State University baseball team returned safely to campus on Monday night after the bus they were traveling in caught fire earlier in the day outside of Birmingham, Alabama. No injuries were reported. JSU President Carolyn W. Meyers, director of athletics Dr. Vivian L. Fuller and outgoing JSU national alumni association president Terry L. Woodard greeted the players and coaches with a meal in the Student Center. “We are relieved that everyone is safe. We appreciate everyone’s thoughts and prayers,” Meyers said. The bus was transporting the team to a game at Savannah State scheduled for Tuesday. The game has been canceled. Jackson State’s games Thursday and Friday at Norfolk State also have been canceled. “The university will conduct its own exhaustive investigation into this unfortunate incident,” Meyers said. Ole Miss and Mississippi State have volunteered to assist JSU in any way possible to help the Tigers practice and get ready for the SWAC Tournament, scheduled for May 13-18 in New Orleans.
