PRESENTED BY CLEMSON, S.C. -- No. 13-ranked UCLA capped a strong weekend with two first-place finishes in its varsity eight races on Sunday at the Clemson Invitational. A portion of Saturday’s races were postponed to Sunday on Lake Hartwell in South Carolina, and the UCLA varsity eight crew finished first in all three of its races during both days. After crossing the finish line first in its only race Saturday, the Bruins’ top boat finished first in two seven-boat heats Sunday morning. UCLA’s second varsity eight crew finished third and second, respectively, in each of its Sunday morning races. The varsity four crew registered a fourth-place and third-place finish in two Sunday races, while the second varsity four finished second in its five-boat heat. In the Bruins’ first varsity eight race of the day, UCLA clocked a time of 6:47.90, finishing 3.50 seconds ahead of second-place No. 15-ranked Wisconsin. No. 20-ranked Indiana, Harvard, No. 18-ranked Clemson, Tennessee and Texas rounded out the final five boats in that race. UCLA’s varsity eight crew continued its success nearly 90 minutes later, crossing the finish line ahead of Indiana, Washington State, Michigan State, Dartmouth, Cornell and Clemson. The Bruins posted a time of 7:04.30, just 1.2 seconds ahead of second-place Indiana. The Bruins return to action in a dual meet against Southern California on Saturday, May 3, in San Pedro, Calif.
