In a recent Q+A session on Twitter, McGregor was asked about moving up to the welterweight division. The former two-division UFC champion confirmed that was his next step. Mcgregor made his amateur debut in 2007 for Ring of Truth and would win the fight via TKO in the first round. After the fight, he would go professional and sign with Cage of Truth. Mcgregor would have a professional record of 12-2 which would include winning the Cage Warriors Featherweight and Lightweight Championship. He would be signed by the UFC in 2013.

McGregor would build on his momentum as he defeated the likes of Max Hollow and ay, Dustin Poirier before getting a title shot against Jose Aldo at UFC 189.
