Leon 'Rocky' Edwards is the current UFC welterweight champion with a professional record of 20 wins and 3 losses. Born in Kingston, Jamaica 'Rocky' spent his initial years there before moving to England with his parents in search of a better life.
To avoid being consumed by a life of crime and drugs, Edwards' mother signed him up at the local mixed martial arts club, where he began training at age 17.
His early career began in 2010 where 'Rocky' made his debut at the Bushido Challenge 2- A New Dawn. He secured his first win against Carl Booth after executing an armbar in the second round.
Edwards made his UFC debut in 2014 when he took on Claudio Silva at UFC Fight Night: Shogun vs. Saint Preux. His first victory came via KO at just eight seconds going into his second bout against Seth Baczynski at UFC Fight Night 64.
He eventually faced champion to be, Kamaru Usman in 2015 at UFC on Fox 17, losing to 'The Nigerian Nightmare' via unanimous decision.
From then however, Leon Edwards went on to win every single UFC fight with only one no-contest against Belal Muhammad in 2021.
'Rocky' earned a shot at the welterweight title at UFC 278 when he was scheduled to rematch with welterweight king Kamaru Usman. The highly anticipated rematch saw both men duke it out with Edwards winning via KO, and claiming the title.
