PRESENTED BY GAINESVILLE, Fla. -- On the second day of the 2014 Florida Relays, it was all about Florida -- and the 200 and 400-meter races were all the buzz Friday afternoon as the two-day attendance at Pressly Stadium increased to 2,263 track and field faithful. Gator junior sprinter Dedric Dukes clocked a world-leading 19.97 (-0.6), the second-fastest time in Florida history and the eighth-best time in collegiate history, while sophomore Kyra Jefferson got it done on the women’s side with the fastest collegiate 200m this season and a new UF record with her 22.78 (-0.6) in a race that featured the two fastest marks in the world this year. In the 400m, both Robin Reynolds (51.57) and Arman Hall (45.19) turned in collegiate-leading performances, Reynolds with the third-fastest time in the world this season, Hall with the fourth. Florida senior middle-distance runner Sean Obinwa won his second consecutive 800m title with a collegiate leading 1:46.68, a new PR and fourth-best on UF’s top-10 list. A slew of personal bests and record-performances laced Day 2 in both the track and field events at Percy Beard Track in Gainesville and David Levin, Marija Vucenovic and Fawn Miller paced the Gators’ field events crew, Levin with a new PR in the hammer throw (61.45m/ 201-7) to move up to third all-time in the Florida record book with his second-place finish, while Vucenovic, the second-best performer in the country this season in the javelin, posted a 56.26m/184-7 Friday, good for second place in the event. Miller put up a career-best 52.89m/173-6 for fourth in the event to also improve her No. 4 mark on UF’s all-time top-10 list. Junior hurdler Bridgette Owens (12.90, +1.9) and freshman distance runner Becky Greene (4:19.68) also added event wins for the Orange and Blue in the 100m hurdles and 1500m, respectively, both with PRs.
