Unlike in the men's tournament bidding process, where the full FIFA membership casts a vote, the FIFA Council will vote to award the Women's World Cup. While the joint Korean bid may raise eyebrows, FIFA head Gianni infantino has encouraged the bid and they seem to be the favourites to host the FIFA Womens World Cup 2023 in spite of the two neighbours strong political differences and conflicts. The joint bid is the latest combined initiative by the two Korean nations to displays their sporting unity. The countries otherwise have been at war since 1950. In May 2018, North and South Korea were due to play each other in the quarterfinals of table tennis world championships, but instead they came together as a team to compete against Japan in the semifinal. The two countries are planning to compete as a unified team at the Tokyo Olympics in 2020 and are bidding to host the 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games together.
