PRESENTED BY CHAPEL HILL, N.C. -- North Carolina picked up an impressive 6-1 victory against No. 9 Northwestern on Tuesday afternoon at Cone-Kenfield Tennis Center. North Carolina (17-3) outlasted the Wildcats to pick up the always critical doubles point. The 15th-ranked duo of Caroline Price and Whitney Kay fell behind early, but rallied for the 8-5 victory to get momentum going in favor of the Tar Heels. UNC's third doubles team of Ashley Dai and Tessa Lyons also fell behind early, but came all the way back to post an 8-6 victory to clinch the doubles point. Top-ranked Jamie Loeb made easy work of No. 36 Veronica Corning at No. 1 singles, winning 6-2, 6-2, to run her impressive season record to 38-2. At No. 4 singles, Whitney Kay finished not long after Loeb with a 6-2, 6-1 victory against Manon Peri. Ashley Dai clinched the Tar Heel victory at No. 6 singles with a 6-4, 4-6, 6-4, win against Jillian Rooney. No. 41 Caroline Price and No. 5 Hayley Carter followed soon after with a win at No. 3 and No. 2 singles, respectively, to make it 6-0 in favor of Carolina. Northwestern (9-5) won at No. 5 singles to avoid the sweep.
