It started with the Netherlands falling to a shock 2-1 defeat to the Czech Republic and ends with the defending champions Portugal being dumped out of the competition in the Round of 16. As I said before, there is a magic about tournament football and pretty much any result is possible in the knockout stages. Portugal gave it everything they had in the second half, but they were unable to find an equalizer. Cristiano Ronaldo will eventually become the most decorated goalscorer in the history of the game, but he'll have to wait to write his name into the history books.
