It's been a pleasure keeping up with this game, I'd like to thank all my readers for following my live coverage. Until next time, this is signing off. Cheers! Denmark. What a team.
They did Christian Eriksen proud, they did their country proud - SPORTbible (@sportbible) England team lead a chorus of Sweet Caroline in Wembley. ? - Nizaar Kinsella (@NizaarKinsella) I am so thrilled for Southgate. Every move mulled over, ever decision discussed across the nation. But he has been nothing but class… as always.- Mina Rzouki (@Minarzouki) The plaudits today rest with England though - they were given a scare in the first half but bounced back admirably to restore parity. As the game wore on and Denmark grew tired, England's bench made its mark with the likes of Foden, Grealish, and Trippier playing important roles.
Harry Kane might've scored the winner with that ruthless rebound, but Raheem Sterling gets much of the credit - he was on fire towards the end. England have shown that they have that specific champions' gene, but can they go all the way? We'll know in a few days' time. Poor Simon Kjaer is distraught. Has to be lifted off the floor by teammates and opponents. What a hero. What a player. It's fair to say he's not had a bad tournament: led his team to the semi-finals and helped save a man's life.- Oliver Holt (@OllieHolt22) Denmark gave England a serious run for their money today and deserve immense credit for the way they've carried themselves after the Euros. You won't see a setback in the sport more harrowing than the one they suffered, and yet the Danes carried themselves with grace and grit. They might be bowing out right now but look out for their next generation - Damsgaard, Maehle, Dolberg, they've all been a credit to this competition. After 120 minutes of exhilarating action, England come out on top, and Wembley is thrilled to bits! They'll go on to meet Italy in the final this weekend, and we have a brilliant match on our hands. ITALY AND ENGLAND WILL MEET IN THE FINAL! ?????? - ESPN FC (@ESPNFC) ENGLAND REACH THEIR FIRST INTERNATIONAL FINAL SINCE 1966 - B/R Football (@brfootball) And that's that!! England are into the final of Euro 2020. They're first-ever final appearance in European Championship history! FULL TIME:
England 2-1 Denmark (AET) 120 + 1' Schmeichel with another save! Sterling is tormenting Denmark and has now won another crucial corner. 120' Last throw of the dice for Denmark. It's out by Maguire though, only seconds left now.. 118' After a brief spell of danger from Denmark, England are back on the ball. Sterling and Trippier link up on the right, these are precious seconds being spent on the ball by Southgate's charges! 115' England clear their lines and it's now desperate stuff from Denmark. Now or never for them. 114' Braithwaite!! Pickford was worried by that snap shot, but it's just wide. Got a deflection on the way through, and Denmark have a corner.. 113' England on the counter! It's that man Sterling again, easily outpaces the Danes and finds Kane on the left. Denmark get their numbers back, though, and the move breaks down. 109' Denmark are struggling to find a way through this robust England side, let alone create a chance. If they do manage an equaliser, it will certainly be against the run of play. 106' Interesting change from Southgate, Kieran Trippier on for Jack Grealish. The Villa star has been taken off after a brief substitute appearance. WE'RE UNDERWAY WITH THE FINAL 15!
England kick things off from left to right. Welcome to the double-figure club - Gary Lineker (@GaryLineker) Raheem Sterling and Harry Kane, it's that duo again. The former won the penalty with an unstoppable run, and the latter hunted Schmeichel down to put England ahead. The Three Lions are 15 minutes away from their first Euro final! FIRST HALF OF EXTRA TIME DONE!
England 2-1 Denmark 105 + 2' Wembley is bursting at its seams! It's all England at the moment. 105 + 1' Denmark have the ball now, and need an immediate response. Not much time left in this game. Jonas Wind comes on for Vestergaard. Kasper Schmeichel pulls off a magnificent stop, but the ball is straight by to Kane. The sheer poacher that he is, the England captain makes no mistake. England have the lead! 104' 2-1 ENGLAND! HARRY KANE ON THE REBOUND!! The penalty stands! Harry Kane steps up.. Sterling takes Maehle out with a stunning run and Maehle is left in his wake. A VAR check is underway.. 102' PENALTY FOR ENGLAND!! BRILLIANT WORK FROM RAHEEM STERLING! 101' England are bossing things at the moment, those substitutions have really made an impact. Henderson makes a run down the right and puts a bit of loop on his cross, Vestergaard gets in the way with his giant frame. 98' GREALISH!! The corner is cleared and the ball falls to the Aston Villa at the edge of the area. Schmeichel makes yet another crucial save! 97' England are throwing numbers forward, some nice link-up play from Foden and Sterling gets a cross in, Luke Shaw eventually wins an important corner. 95' England make a double change, Declan Rice and Mason Mount are taken off in place of Jordan Henderson and Phil Foden. Southgate has some serious bench strength at his disposal! 94' KANE!! Walker finds Kane on the right channel, the captain takes a shot from a tight angle and nearly gets it through, Schmeichel gets a firm hand to it and Denmark clear their lines. Phew. 93' A predictably scrappy start to this 15-minute period, with several stoppages. Barring a moment of magic, both teams will take their time to hit their stride. EXTRA TIME IS UNDERWAY!
Denmark get things started, from right to left. This is the seventh of 14 knockout games to go to extra-time - B/R Football (@brfootball) The scores are still level here at Wembley after another tense period of football. It was England's half this time, with Southgate's tweaks turning the tide in his side's favour. The one thing we didn't see in the second half is a winning goal, and both teams now have an additional 30 minutes to find it before we go to penalties! WE GO INTO EXTRA TIME!
England 1-1 Denmark 90 + 7' Kane!! Grealish finds his captain in the box but Kjaer gets in the way with an important block. 90 + 5' England win a free-kick after some good work from Kane. Mount whips it in and Maguire gets to the ball again, but it's an easier save for Schmeichel this time. 90 + 3' Tense moment for Denmark as Sterling beats his man on the right. Cuts it back for Kane and Phillips, the latter lets fly but doesn't trouble the keeper. 90 + 1' Excellent defending from Denmark, Harry Kane finds the ball at his feet in the penalty area but is forced wide by three Danes. Very little space there for the captain, and Denmark clear their lines. SIX minutes of stoppage-time. 90' England now enjoy a good spell with a few intricate passes. Maehle puts a stop to it but concedes a throw-in. Patient build-up from the Three Lions. 88' Denmark can't make much of the corner, Vestergaard is penalised for a foul in the area. Only a few moments until extra time! 88' Mathias Jensen comes on for an exhausted Thomas Delaney. 87' Denmark have improved in these last ten minutes, Poulsen does well and now has a corner for his troubles. 84' Delaney gets into a good position after some precise build-up from Denmark. The final product is poor, however, and the chance goes begging. 82' Close from Stones!! Delaney concedes a foul and Shaw takes the set-piece, Stones tries to deflect it into the net but it's wide of the post. 80' Phillips! England are piling on the pressure here, the ball falls to Kalvin Phillips outside the area and he takes his chances from distance. Not far away! 79' Yes they do. Joachim Andersen replaces Andreas Christensen. 79' Christensen is down on the ground again - he flew (quite literally) into a long ball from Maguire and is not at his physical best at the moment. Will Denmark make a change? 78' The game has slowed a fair bit, with both teams taking time to get used to the change in setups. England have been the better side since the hour-mark, but will need to make it count. No penalty, confirmed by VAR. Wembley is not happy. 74' Wembley is furious!! Harry Kane has gone down in the box, and the referee gives it the other way for an earlier foul! VAR will definitely check this.. 73' Schmeichel took no chances there! Mount's cross is a little too close to goal for comfort and he tips it over the bar for a corner. 72' Yellow Card for Daniel Wass.
That's what Grealish can do. Runs at Denmark, gets a shove in the back, and the referee promptly reaches for his pocket. 69' Listen to that Wembley crowd! Jack Grealish comes on for Bukayo Saka. Interesting changes from Denmark there, they've put in an extra midfielder to make up for their lost control. Damsgaard and Dolberg are their two most dangerous attacking weapons, and are now both off the pitch. 67' Triple change from Denmark, Daniel Wass on for Jens Stryger Larsen, Yussuf Poulsen on for Mikkel Damsgaard, and Christian Norgaard on for Kasper Dolberg Andreas Christensen is currenlty receiving treatment on the pitch, possibly for a cramp. Denmark are planning a few changes here.. 63' It's England's turn to dominate now, and Phillips and Rice are all over Denmark. Mount gets his shot away after some intricate play but it's a little too comfortable for Kasper Schmeichel. 62' Chance for Mount!! Phillips is given too much time on the ball, and finds Mount with a brilliant lob. Vestergaard does really well to recover just in time, and Denmark rid themselves of the danger. 60' Luke Shaw, that was a dangerous cross! Sterling waits for the full-back's run and sets him on his path. Lethal cross that nobody could get to the end of, and Denmark manage to clear their lines. 58' Dolberg with another attempt on target! It's less vicious this time, and straight at Pickford. The striker had more space than he was aware of there! 58' England clear their lines, but Denmark come back at them. Damsgaard dribbles on the flank but takes a touch too long, the ball goes out of play before his cross. 57' Denmark's turn to push forward now, Dolberg and Braithwaite link up on the right to win a corner. End-to-end stuff! 55' Schmeichel again with an excellent stop!! Maguire rises highest - legally this time - and steers the ball towards the corner. Kasper Schmeichel is a big man as well - use every last inch of his reach to make a crucial save! 54' Poor challenge from Maehle, he's given away a needless free-kick. Saka and Mount stand over the ball on the right flank. 53' Braithwaite puts in a teasing cross, and Pickford makes his decision - punches the ball clear. Denmarkare looking quite promising at the moment. Dolberg was offside anyway so that would not have counted. That was a dangerous situation for England, though. 51' DOLBERG!! That's excellent work from both the striker and the keeper, gets his shot away from a tight space. Pickford does well to get low and make the save. Kjaer is down at the moment and is receiving treatment. A brief stoppage in play, the first major one we've had so far. 49' Yellow Card for Harry Maguire.
The United captain gets his elbow into Kjaer's face, and gets booked as a result. 47' Both teams testing the waters in the second half so far, Denmark are moving the ball quite well. England win the ball back and Saka draws the foul from Vestergaard on the right. THE SECOND HALF IS UNDERWAY!
England kick things off, attacking from left to right. The players are back on the pitch for the second half.. Denmark have been impressive, though, and England have a few issues to address at half time. Wembley's atmosphere can quickly become a picture of tension if this game goes deep enough, and the Danes have a fair bit of firepower at their disposal.
Will Southgate make changes to his side? He certainly has options on that bench - Foden, Grealish, Sancho. Most teams would kill for those players, let alone bench them. A lot to look forward to in this second half, we'll be back in a few minutes! HT 1-1 - WhoScored.com (@WhoScored) Pierre-Emile Højbjerg (5) made more tackles than the entire side combined (4) in the first half.
Getting stuck in. - Squawka Football (@Squawka) And it's that man, Bukayo Saka. Plenty of unwarranted criticism has come his way, but the Arsenal man has silenced his skeptics with a cross that Simon Kjaer could very little about, apart from bundling it into his own net. You've got to feel for the AC Milan defender, but England won't mind - they have their equaliser! England, to their credit, were not stunned into submission. Much of the discourse surrounding the team has focussed on how it would respond to being a goal behind, and Southgate's players have passed that test with flying colours! Denmark were the dominant force for much of the first half-hour and deserved their opening goal. What a strike that was, though, from Mikkel Damsgaard. He can seemingly do no wrong at the moment, and has now scored the only direct free-kick at Euro 2020 so far. No added time at the end of a brilliant half of football, and it's all square at Wembley! Denmark were the better team for the better part of these 45 minutes, but England came back with intent towards the end there and have their equaliser to show for it. HALF TIME:
England 1-1 Denmark 45' Denmark have almost everybody behind the ball, England have bossed proceedings since their equaliser. Kane attempts a smart through-ball into the box, but Kjaer is alert to the danger. 43' England have a spring in their step, and they're keeping the ball well as a result. Will they look to go ahead before half-time? Simon Kjær is the first player to score an own goal in a European Championship semi-final since Jorge Andrade in 2004.
ELEVEN own goals at this tournament now. - Squawka Football (@Squawka) That's going to go down as a Simon Kjaer own goal, but there's not much he could've done there. Harry Kane brings his playmaking skills to the fore, and Saka takes Schmeichel out of the game with his cross. Kjaer throws his body in front of Sterling, but that cross was troublesome. 1-1, and England have responded! 39' THE EQUALISER!!!! ENGLAND RESTORE PARITY, 1-1! 38' WHAT A SAVE, KASPER SCHMEICHEL!! Harry Kane puts it on a silver plate from Raheem Sterling, and Schmeichel pulls off an excellent save! 37' Denmark rush forward on the counter, with Damsgaard and Braithwaite taking charge. Hojbjerg attempts a cross but gets too much on it, England get the ball back. 36' Into the wall from Sterling! Good strike from Sterling, but the Danes are HUGE. 35' England have a free-kick now, poor foul from Delaney. Similar distance to the Damsgaard goal, can England make the most of it? 33' This is no fluke, make no mistake. Denmark have been the better team so far. They're winning all the 50-50s, and England need a spark of inspiration at the moment. England are behind for the first time at Euro 2020. New ground to cover for Gareth Southgate. How will they react?
Mikkel Damsgaard is the first player to score from a direct free-kick at
Mikel DAMNsgaard is absolutely right. ? - Squawka Football (@Squawka) You'll very rarely see a more powerful free-kick. Not in the corner, but Pickford had absolutely no chance. He's only 21 years old, and already has some serious dynamite in him. 1-0 to Denmark! What. An. Absolute. Screamer. 30' GOOOOOOOOOAAAAAAAAL MIKKEL DAMSGAARD!! ENGLAND ARE STUNNED! 29' Denmark now have a free-kick in a good position, the delivery is poor but another foul by Shaw gives the Danes another free-kick a good 15 yards closer. Damsgaard can take a shot here.. 27' Saka wins England a free-kick in a good position, but Denmark make short work of the set-piece. Southgate's side has the ball back, though, and will need to seize the initiative here. 25' DAMSGAARD!! Wriggles out of a difficult position and finds a tiny speck of space and time, takes the opportunity to let fly! That was not far away from the youngster.. 23' Denmark quicken their pace in the final third, but Walker makes another crucial intervention. Maehle was on his motorbike there - England need to be careful against this Danish side. 21' Denmark are enjoying a good spell of possession at the moment, England have not seen as much of the ball as they would've liked. The midfield battle in this game will be one to watch - yesterday's Italy-Spain tussle was brimming with technicality, but we'll be seeing a lot more tenacity today. Hojbjerg and Delaney up against Rice and Phillips, this should be fun. 17' Denmark try to crowd Pickford out on the set-piece but England clear their lines. The ball comes back to Larsen on the left, but Mount does a number on him to win the free-kick. 16' Denmark are playing their hand now. Both Phillips and Pickford get their passes wrong, Braithwaite gets his shot away and wins a corner.. 15' Kane this time!! Goes for the spectacular, bunts the ball up on the volley and tries to strike it on the turn. Far too high this time, but Denmark can't afford to give him much space. 13' Sterling!! Denmark get far too many numbers forward after the corner, and England win the ball back and give it straight to Kane. He finds Sterling in the left, but the winger's trademark 'cut in and shoot' doesn't trouble Schmeichel. 12' England are causing a few problems on the right, Saka does well and Mount bursts through, Vestergaard gets in the way again to concede a corner. The Danes clear their lines but can't get their counter away. 9' Excellent defending from Walker. Three smart touches from Denmark and Damsgaard is through on goal, Kyle Walker uses his pace brilliantly to get goal side and snuff out the danger. 8' Sterling does well to beat his man on the left flank and floats the ball into the box. Denmark have some big men in there, though, and Vestergaard rises highest to clear. 6' Sterling, that was so close!! England win possession and quickly move the ball on to Kane on the right. The striker puts in a teasing cross and Sterling is only a couple of feet away from an open net! 3' England push forward for the first time tonight! Mason Mount with a neat turn in the box, but Denmark get in the way and Schmeichel collects. 2' Quite a scrappy start to this game, we've already seen a few tackles. Far too early to pick a dominant force, both these sides can keep the ball well. KICK-OFF!
Denmark get things started, attacking from left to right. Right, so who's it gonna be? Italy will also be watching, surely. England and Denmark. A semi-final at Wembley. Here we go! So here we are. Wembley Stadium is LOUD. And they have every right to be - this could be England's best shot at a Euro final, something they've surprisingly never achieved before.
Time for the national anthems! We're about an hour away from the start of what should be a fantastic contest, so here are a few interesting head-to-heads and statistics to keep you company:
Denmark, on the other hand, have gone with their tried-and-tested 3-4-3 formation, with not one single change. The Danes were troubled by Czech Republic over the weekend and will need to be wary of England's robust set-up.
Mikkel Damsgaard and Joakim Maehle have been revelations for Denmark and could potentially trouble the Three Lions. Kasper Dolberg has been in exceptional goalscoring form and will be looking to end England's run of clean sheets tonight. So the reports from the English media have been proven true yet again - Bukayo Saka has been given the nod against Denmark ahead of both Phil Foden and Jadon Sancho. The rest of the line-up remains unchanged - Mason Mount starts in his preferred attacking midfield role with the double pivot of Rice and Phillips behind him.
Harry Kane and Raheem Sterling have been brilliant this season and are their side's primary goal threats. Luke Shaw was brilliant against both Ukraine and Germany and his presence on the left will bolster England's attack. Line-ups for ??????

After a shock start to their Euro 2020 campaign that saw two defeats and their best player ruled out by one of the most serious health incidents in European football history. The Danes have shown heart, they've shown plenty of grit, and they've rightfully become the neutrals' favourites.
Denmark have a shot at reaching the Euro final for the first time since they won the tournament in 1992. England have the home advantage and the upper hand but if there's one thing we've learned from Euro 2020, it's that you can never rule the underdogs out! ?????'? ?? ????? ???? ???? haven't made the final of a major tournament since 1966...

Haunting. - OptaJoe (@OptaJoe) England have been a juggernaut under Gareth Southgate and are yet to concede a goal at Euro 2020. The Three Lions are in better shape than they've ever been in recent years and it could potentially be now or never for them. Is it really coming home?

?????'? ?? ????? ???? ???? haven't made the final of a major tournament since 1966...
...will that change tonight? - ITV Football (@itvfootball) 14 - In his professional career for club and country, Harry Kane has scored more goals past Kasper Schmeichel than he has against any other goalkeeper in all competitions (14). Haunting. - OptaJoe (@OptaJoe) England have been a juggernaut under Gareth Southgate and are yet to concede a goal at Euro 2020. The Three Lions are in better shape than they've ever been in recent years and it could potentially be now or never for them. Is it really coming home?
