So that's that from this contest but don't waste any further time and hop over to catch our coverage of the Namibia-UAE clash. The fate of the Namibians as well as the Dutch rest on that contest so sit back, relax and catch our coverage of that right here on Sportskeeda. Of course, do stay tuned to the same platform for further cricketing news and action from around the globe. For the moment though, this is the duo of Shashwat Kumar and Sooryanarayanan Sesha taking your leave for the moment. Thank you so much for tuning in - toodles! There will be a collective sigh of relief in the Sri Lankan camp having started their campaign on the wrong note. They've prevailed and managed to secure their path through to the Super 12 but they will have to wait a few hours to know which group they slot into, depending on whether they finish first or second. As for the Netherlands, all their hopes firmly rest on the UAE - should they beat Namibia, Scott Edwards and Co. will progress to the Super 12. If not, Namibia will secure that berth and the Dutch will crash out in heartbreaking manner. We've got all eyes trained on that encounter now alright! Dasun Shanaka (Sri Lanka Captain): We knew when we come into the World Cup we'd be the number 1 team in the group but we missed out in the first game. Credit to the boys for the way they played and the bowlers as well, especially Wanindu. I thought the wicket wasn't easy to bat on. It was two-paced. We controlled the game well. Scott Edwards (Netherlands Captain): I think we bowled pretty well in the powerplay. I think we were unlucky that a lot of balls didn't go to hand. We knew they were going to be dangerous through the middle and in the back end. Hopefully the UAE can get up and can go through (against Namibia). But it was in our hands and we're just disappointed. Kusal Mendis, Player of the Match: (On his plan) Earlier the wicket was a little bit slow. I was taking singles and was looking for loose balls. After the 15 balls, Asalanka also knew how to play the conditions and it became easier for me Match summary: Sri Lanka beat Netherlands by 16 runs and qualify for the Super 12.

Kusal Mendis 79 (44) Wanindu Hasaranga 3/28 (4)
Max O'Dowd 71* (53) Paul van Meekeren 2/25 (4)

It ebbed and flowed, this chase. Sri Lanka were ahead for large swathes but were given a scare. Eventually, they have prevailed and have secured a path through to the Super 12.

It was Kusal Mendis' sensational 79 that set up a solid total of 162 and the bowlers then took over for the Islanders. Vikramjit Singh failed to get any kind of rhythm into his stay and even as Bas de Leede looked to add momentum, he perished towards the end of the Powerplay, putting the Lankans ahead. Wanindu Hasaranga then came on and did...well, Wanindu Hasaranga things! Colin Ackermann chipped one back and the Dutch were staring down the abyss.

Tom Cooper took his time but it was Max O'Dowd who was looking in good touch, even finding the odd boundary at the right time. It was a pity he didn't get to face majority of the deliveries with the Sri Lankan bowlers hitting their radar to perfection. Maheesh Theekshana was close to unplayable owing his many variations but a sweep masterclass from skipper Scott Edwards put the Netherlands on course again.

Binura Fernando then struck a telling blow, using his knuckle ball yorker to prize out the Dutch skipper. With Roelof van der Merwe not fit to bat unless absolutely required, it all came down to O'Dowd to pull off the unthinkable. Despite the odds stacked up against him, despite the mastery of the Lankan bowlers and despite the Dutch slipping from 100/4 to 109/8, he threatened to pull it off.

The Lankan bowlers squandered the initiative in the death overs with Fernando and Theekshana coming under the pump. O'Dowd fought and fought as valiantly as he could in the company of a hobbling van der Merwe. Their fighting spirit was on display and they weren't going to bow down without making a fist of it. Van der Merwe tried his level best to keep O'Dowd on strike but in the end, Lahiru Kumara held his nerve and it proved to be a bridge too far for the Dutch. Stick around as we hear from the captains in just a little bit... He can grin in relief now can Lahiru Kumara. The Netherlands have fought and how but they've fallen short and will now pray for a UAE win. Sri Lanka win by 16 runs and are through to the Super 12! 20 0 1 1b 4 0 0 19.6 Lahiru Kumara to Max O'Dowd, SRI LANKA WIN! Back of a length delivery outside off stump. Max continues swinging but only sees the ball whistle past the flailing bat. Sri Lanka celebrate, and rightly so! But take a minute to appreciate what van der Merwe has put into this game! He could barely walk, yet, he came out to see if he could haul the Netherlands to an improbable victory! He has fought valiantly alright. Respect for Roelof! What a warrior - tea_addict (@on_drive23) 19.5 Lahiru Kumara to Max O'Dowd, banged into the track outside off stump. Max has a swipe but because Kumara is such a slipper customer, he can't get any bat on it 19.4 Lahiru Kumara to Max O'Dowd, FOUR! Length delivery outside off stump. Max throws his hands at it and carves it over backward point for a boundary! This game is sewn up, though, unless Sri Lanka indulge in something unnecessary! How did Kumara mess that up? But jeez, huge levels of respect for the way van der Merwe has fought here! 19.3 Lahiru Kumara to Roelof van der Merwe, OH DEAR! Short delivery outside off stump. van der Merwe has a swing and misses. The keeper then misses the stumps at the batter's end. Kumara then fumbles and misses the shy at the other end, and van der Merwe somehow completes the single The replays confirm that van der Merwe has made it but he threw his head down given that O'Dowd is off strike! Can he go big? 19.2 Lahiru Kumara to Max O'Dowd, length delivery on leg stump. Max comes onto the front foot and flicks it towards deep backward square leg. Max is trying everything to get back for the second but it is simply not on. The umpires are checking whether van der Merwe regained his ground, and he just about managed to do so 19.1 Lahiru Kumara to Max O'Dowd, back of a length delivery outside off stump that zips through. Max throws his hands at it but is late on the stroke as the ball fizzes past the bat Lahiru Kumara [3.0-0-23-1] to bowl the final over of the game Oh the pressure! The pressure of what is at stake gets to the best. Despite being in a commanding position, Theekshana could feel that pressure. That tells you how brilliantly Max O'Dowd has played. 23 required off the final over! Can he write himself into cricketing folklore? Wanna suggest something? Power through the road less
