The commentary is not available for this match. Please check the scorecard for latest updates. That's it from us then. It's double-header day again tomorrow at the MCG with England taking on Ireland in the first game before New Zealand takes on Afghanistan in the second. We'll be around to bring you all the action from those two contests, of course. But for now, this is Pratyush Rohra, signing off on behalf of my partner, Shashwat Kumar. See ya! Right then. Australia have managed to get over the line in the only contest scheduled for today, keeping their T20 World Cup campaign alive and giving their net run rate a much-needed boost as well. However, the defending champions have been far from their A-Game and will be hoping to bring that to the table when they face their arch-rivals at the MCG on Friday.

As for Sri Lanka, it's not a case of going back to the drawing board. They've been unlucky with the injuries to their fast bowlers and they'll be hoping Binura Fernando's injury isn't too serious. The batting could do with a bit of impetus but their spinners were belted tonight, which will be a bit of a concern. Despite that, they fought commendably in this contest. Aaron Finch (Australian captain): Very happy (with the result). My innings was unusual and poor. We knew the first 4-5 overs would be tough, especially with Kumara nipping it around the way he was. It would have been nice if I had been able to kick in earlier to finish it quicker but we managed to get over the line. It was tough. It's such a big ground, so it's tough to stand and deliver. It's tough to hit from the middle of the bat. That's no excuse for me but glad to get over the line. (Stoinis innings) He's got the presence, doesn't he? That's part of half the battle in T20 cricket. Coming out with the intent is the main thing. When you've got the skill and the strength that he does, it's great. (Playing England at the MCG) It's always a great event, regardless of where it is being played in the world. Looking forward to it. Dasun Shanaka (Sri Lankan captain): We started the innings and finished it well but the middle overs were trouble. We fell short by 15-20 runs in the middle overs. Our fast bowlers are coming after injuries, so that's the reason there is a recurrence of injuries. (Pitch) It was tough. The wicket had a spongy bounce. Even Finch was struggling but the batters at the latter part of the innings got them through. Time for the presentations Marcus Stoinis, Player of the Match: (The message in the dressing room) Go after pace and If I feel comfortable, have a go at the spinners. (On the equation) Once I got it, the plan was to keep going. I was really nervous today. Lots of family and friends here. Really happy that we were able to put on a bit of clinic out there. Mentally I was nice and fresh. It (side strain) has been sort of plaguing me. So far so good. (On surface) This pitch was doing a little bit, and had my home crowd here. It was a beautiful wicket. (On match against England) We look forward to playing them at the MCG. We will do our homework, rest up and go from there Australia won by 7 wickets!

Marcus Stoinis - 59* (18) Glenn Maxwell - 1/5
Pathum Nissanka - 40 (45) Maheesh Theekshana - 1/23

The hosts eventually get over the line with seven wickets in hand and 21 balls to spare but it was quite the struggle for them for a large chunk of that innings. Marcus Stoinis will take the headlines after registering the second-fastest fifty in T20 World Cups (17 balls), after Yuvraj Singh (12 balls) but the rest of the batting unit flattered to deceive.

Sri Lanka did exceptionally give a great account of themselves, despite being a bowler short after Fernando limped off injured. Lahiru Kumara was scintillating throughout his spell but was unfortunate not to get a wicket to his name. Sri Lanka were kept in the game courtesy of their bowlers (and Finch's struggles) but Australia's strategy to take down their biggest threat in Hasaranga proved to be vital.

The leg-spinner had his most expensive spell in T20Is, conceding 53 runs in his three overs. Australia's planning and execution to take down their opponents' main bowler proved to be a killer blow for the Asia Cup champions. Maxwell's cameo in the middle overs was a crucial one in turning the tide after Warner and Marsh failed to contribute, but it was Stoinis' power-hitting on display that eventually helped his side over the line.

This win will be a massive boost to the Australian side which has been far from their best in this tournament thus far. Plenty of talking points for them but none bigger than the struggles of their captain, because he was bailed out by his teammates today. Let's see what he has to say about it at the presentation. 16.3 Lahiru Kumara to Aaron Finch, THAT WILL BE THAT! Slower delivery on a length outside off stump. Finch, like he has been doing all evening, loses shape completely and has a hack at it. This time, though, he gets just enough bat to clear mid off and scamper across for the brace that hands Australia a commanding victory! 16.3 Lahiru Kumara to Marcus Stoinis, banged into the track way down the leg side. Stoinis lets it go and the keeper has to stretch to reach that one. In the meantime, Finch gets across for a single The home crowd at the Optus Stadium was nervy for the best part of this innings but they've been brought back to live by this knock from Stoinis. Australia only one hit away now. 16.2 Lahiru Kumara to Marcus Stoinis, SIX! STOINIS POWER! Slower delivery that sits up to be hit on middle and leg stump. Stoinis obliges and clatters it over deep mid wicket 16.2 Lahiru Kumara to Marcus Stoinis, dug into the track at the batter on off stump. Stoinis walks across and then leaves it alone. Called a wide by the square leg umpire, though 16.1 Lahiru Kumara to Aaron Finch, full delivery on middle and off stump. Finch has the wildest slog yet and squirts it off the inside edge towards fine leg for one more run Lahiru Kumara [3.0-0-10-0] is back into the attack With this all-out assault from Stoinis, Australia have not only got their noses in front but have put themselves in a position to finish this off quickly and give their net run rate a much-needed boost. What a clutch performance, this. Take a bow, Marcus Stoinis! What a half-century that is. In fact, it's the fastest fifty by an Australian in T20Is. 16 0 6 6 1 1 6 15.6 Maheesh Theekshana to Marcus Stoinis, SIX MORE! Friendly full toss on leg stump and guess what happens to those, they go miles! Stoinis gives himself swinging room and thumps it into the sightscreen A loud cry of "Oh, my God", from Finch. Sums up his day. 15.5 Maheesh Theekshana to Aaron Finch, full delivery on middle and leg stump. Finch has a slog at it and shanks it badly towards long on for just another single Wanna suggest something? Power through the road less
