Adelaide Strikers win by 6 wickets with 9 balls to spare
The Adelaide Strikers climb to the top of the table by virtue of their win against the Perth Scorchers today. A target of 112 wasn't going to challenge their batting order with the kind of firepower that they have, and even though Lilly Mills started to run through their top-order, it was never going to be enough for the Scorchers. The start that the Strikers got thanks to the 51-run opening partnership between Deandra Dottin and Katie Mack ensured that the platform was set. Interestingly, it was Mack who was the more fluent with the run-scoring among the two, and she used her start to good effect and saw her side home eventually. Dottin played a few aggressive strokes in her 20-ball 18 before Devine broke the opening stand. Lilly Mills then proceeded to take Laura Wolvaardt, Tahlia McGrath and Bridget Patterson in quick succession, and the Strikers were in a bit of bother. But Madeline Penna joined forces with Mack, weathered the chase down, and having taken the power surge, the Strikers coasted home with time to spare. 18.3 Sophie Devine to Madeline Penna, pitched up delivery on leg-stump, Penna drives it to mid-on, hustles for a quick single and takes it. The Strikers beat the Scorchers by 6 wickets 18.2 Sophie Devine to Madeline Penna, good length delivery angling on leg-stump, Penna swings across the line but misses due to the lack of bounce as the ball hits the front thigh pad 18.1 Sophie Devine to Madeline Penna, FOUR! Penna has changed the complexion of this match and the scores are level. Half-volley outside off-stump, Penna lofts it over mid-off and gets a boundary Sophie Devine (3-0-24-1) is back into the attack The Strikers are just a big hit away from a victory. 18 1 0 1 4 1 1 17.6 Marizanne Kapp to Madeline Penna, on a good length wide of off-stump, Penna reaches for it and mistimes the shot to backward point. They get a quick single 17.5 Marizanne Kapp to Katie Mack, moves across and tries to play another ramp but the length was wide of off-stump, so she guides it towards the fielder at short third and gets a single 17.4 Marizanne Kapp to Katie Mack, FOUR! Slow delivery around off-stump, Mack shuffles across the off-stump and scoops it behind square on the leg-side for a boundary 17.3 Marizanne Kapp to Madeline Penna, slow delivery angling in, Penna smashes it to deep mid-wicket and gets a single 17.2 Marizanne Kapp to Madeline Penna, good length delivery angling in, Penna pushes it to extra cover 17.1 Marizanne Kapp to Katie Mack, short of a length delivery bowled slower, Mack mistimes the shot as she flat bats it uppishly and the ball falls shot of mid-on 13 more needed off the last three. Do the Scorchers have something up their sleeve to derail the Strikers? 17 0 1lb 0 4 0 0 16.6 Alana King to Madeline Penna, fuller delivery on off-stump, Penna drives it back to the bowler 16.5 Alana King to Madeline Penna, good length delivery angling in, Penna tries to play it across but gets hit on the pads 16.4 Alana King to Madeline Penna, FOUR!
