Ashleigh Gardner 43 (22) and 4/23
Mignon du Preez 26 (19) Sophie Ecclestone 2/16
Although the Hurricanes started well, the game got away from them with the arrival of Ashleigh Gardner at number three. She, after bagging four wickets with the ball, led the way for her side’s victory with a swashbuckling 43 scored in even time. After that, there was no looking back for the side from New South Wales.
The Hurricanes struggled to take wickets, and this was partly due to their skipper Ellyse Villani’s reluctance to try spin on a more consistent basis. The first over from Heather Graham midway through the innings turned the momentum in the favour of the Sixers, and after that, the going became rather tough for the Hurricanes.
Molly Strano and Maisy Gibson tried their best to undo some of the damage wreaked by the medium pacers, but it was a little too late. The Sixers will take great heart from the fact that they chased this total of the Hurricanes down with more than an over to spare.
This will give them a lot of confidence, which will be critical for them going ahead in this competition. The Hurricanes, on the other hand, will be hoping that none of the mistakes they made today get repeated in the future. The Sixers won their fourth match of this year’s edition of the WBBL. Ashleigh Gardner, take a bow! There is a technical error at our end which we are trying hard to rectify. We regret the inconvenience caused. Do stay tuned for regular updates!
