PRESENTED BY VERMILLION, S.D. – South Dakota head volleyball coach Matt Houk has accepted an offer to become an assistant coach at Minnesota, ending a six-year run at the helm of a program that went 97-85 under his leadership. Associate head coach Leanne Williamson will become the interim head coach until the position is filled. “I just want to thank everyone at South Dakota for their support over the past six years,” Houk said. “I appreciated the hard work Leanne and [graduate assistant] Michael [Runde] put in while I was there and the support I got from [athletic director] David Herbster and everyone else in the athletic department. I’m going to miss everyone and I wish the Coyotes the best of luck in the future.” Houk will leave the program with the best winning percentage (.533) and the second-most wins by a coach in program history. He led USD to a 37-18 record in the DakotaDome and coached six all-conference players, including last season’s Summit League player of the year Kendall Kritenbrink. “We want to thank Matt for his time at South Dakota and wish him the best of luck,” Herbster said. “Matt was one of the most successful coaches in program history despite having to work through Division I reclassification process. His work helped lift the Coyote program to where it is today and we are better off for having him here.” A national search for a new coach will begin immediately.
