PRESENTED BY INDIANAPOLIS -- The NCAA Division III Men’s Ice Hockey Committee announced the field of 11 teams for the 2014 NCAA Division III Men’s Ice Hockey Championship. Seven conferences have been awarded an automatic qualification. The remaining four teams were selected at-large by the committee. The championship playoff format involves three first-round games and four quarterfinal games that are played on the campuses of the participating institutions. All games in the championship are single elimination. The four quarterfinal winners will advance to Lewiston, Maine, at the Androscoggin Bank Colisée for the semifinal and championship games, which will be conducted March 21-22. Bowdoin and the Maine Sports Commission will host the championship. Conferences receiving automatic qualification are: ECAC DIII Men’s East Hockey League -- Babson (22-4-2)
ECAC DIII Northeast Hockey League -- Nichols (18-6-3)
Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference -- Salem State (16-9-2)
Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference -- St. Thomas (Minn.) (21-4-2)
New England Small College Athletic Conference -- Bowdoin (17-8-2)
Northern Collegiate Hockey Association -- St. Norbert (25-3-1)
State University of New York Athletic Conference -- Oswego State (20-6-2) Adrian (22-2-4), Geneseo State (21-6-0), Wisconsin-Stevens Point (20-5-2) and Norwich (19-6-3) enter the field as the four at-large selections. The semifinal and championship games will be web streamed live on NCAA.com. In 2013, Wisconsin-Eau Claire claimed its first title with a 5-3 win against Oswego State at the Herb Brooks Ice Arena in Lake Placid, N.Y. Related:
