PRESENTED BY On the strength of two nearly perfect routines from senior Sydney Sawa, sixth-ranked UCLA defeated 14th-ranked Oregon State, 196.425-195.625, in Pauley Pavilion on Sunday. Sawa recorded career-best marks on vault (9.95) and floor exercise (9.975), earning a 10.0 from one of the two judges on each event. She also came in as a last-minute sub and scored 9.85 on uneven bars to tie for second place. Also earning a perfect mark from one judge was freshman Angi Cipra on floor exercise, where she finished with a final score of 9.95. The Bruins started the meet by scoring 49.325 on vault after the team's final three competitors scored 9.9 or better. Sawa started the 9.9 party with her 9.95 on a stuck Yurchenko layout full. Redshirt sophomore Sadiqua Bynum followed with a new career-high of 9.9 on a Yurchenko layout half, and senior Olivia Courtney closed the rotation with a 9.9. The Bruins took an early 0.675 lead over the Beavers, who scored 48.7 on uneven bars. In rotation two, the Bruins totaled 49.275 to maintain the lead, 98.600-97.675. Sophomore Sophina DeJesus led UCLA on uneven bars with a career-high 9.95, and Sawa, Courtney, and Danusia Francis added 9.85 each. Oregon State scored 48.975 on vault, led by a 9.9 from Taylor Keeker. The Bruins ran into trouble again on balance beam in rotation three with two falls. Francis highlighted the set with her trademark sideways aerial to stuck full-twisting dismount that scored a season-high 9.925. Hallie Mossett also provided a strong score with a career-high 9.85. The Beavers closed the gap after a 48.775 on floor, cutting UCLA's lead to .525 with one rotation left. Mossett got the Bruins going towards a big score on floor exercise in the final rotation, scoring 9.875 on her first collegiate floor routine. Francis followed with a career-best 9.9.
