Martell and Sandoval finished ahead of top runners from Colorado State, Regis, and Colorado Mines. Samantha Bauer finished sixth in 24:01 followed by Alyssa Wendt with 24:03 to finish seventh among collegiate runners. No. 3 Augustana (S.D.) at Chile Pepper Festival FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. -- Through muddy conditions and a rain-delayed start, Augustana (S.D.) placed first among Division II schools at the Chile Pepper Invitational on Saturday. Runa Falch was the top Division II runner and placed 12th overall. Two inches of rain in the morning soaked the course and pushed back the start race by more than an hour. Tasked with more than just running poor racing conditions, the Vikings were also up against a stacked field with three ranked Division II squads and two top-10 Division I teams. Falch entered the race after being named the USTFCCCA national athlete of the week for the second time and didn't disappoint. "Runa had another good day; placing high and [she] moved up throughout the race," Hellman said. Hellman's description of Falch's performance as a "good day" may be a little understated as she took home her third individual title of the year when she clocked a 17:31.8, good enough for 12th overall, to lead all Division II runners. Kristin Brondbo finished third (24th overall) with a time of 17:59.0 -- returning with three All-America finishes each to their name, but they have started to develop some depth, including the emergence of Kaitlyn Yoerg. Yoerg placed in Augustana's top five for the first time of her career when she was the fifth Viking runner to cross the finish line last week, and she improved on that performance when she placed ninth and clocked an 18:49.2 on Saturday. Megan Brown continued her steady racing with a 19th-place finish and Barcelona import Meritxell gedDelgado logs her first scoring race, placing 27th among the Division II runners. The women tallied 59 points for their third team win in as many races. No. 3 Western State at Mountaineer Open GUNNISON, Colo. -- Western State earned team title at the 2013 Mountaineer Open. The team took six of the first seven spots. Tara Richardson finished first for the women in the 6k race. Richardson ran the 6k in 22:14. Julie Pack, Anna Marshall, Melanie Becic, Cassie Ortiz and Torie Weprin finished in the top seven. No. 5 Alaska-Anchorage at Willamette Invitational SALEM, Ore. -- Alaska-Anchorage placed all five scorers in the top 20 for the team to sweep the cardinal division of the 39th annual Charles Bowles Willamette Invitational on Saturday. The UAA team remains perfect on the season, the fifth-ranked Seawolves dispatched Seattle Pacific 34-93. In the 5K, Seawolf newcomer Joyce Kipchumba led UAA with a runner-up performance at 17:42.67, while Susan Tanui – the 2012 NCAA runner-up – finished third at 17:44.51. Seniors Ivy O’Guinn (18:01.32) and Susan Bick (18:10.04) crossed the finish line in fifth and sixth, respectively, while Bryn Haebe (18:43.82) was 19th.
