Is there an initial enrollment period for Medigap?
How long do I have to enroll in a Medigap plan Is there a time limit
When you are first eligible for Medicare, you have a six-month Medigap (Medicare Supplemental Insurance) open enrollment period, which starts the first month you’re both 65 and enrolled in Part B. This period gives you a guaranteed right to buy any Medigap policy sold in your state. Once this enrollment period ends, if you have a Medigap policy and cancel it, you might not be able to reenroll at a later date. There are rules for switching your Medigap plan. Sometimes the insurance company can deny you coverage, even if you had your previous Medigap for a long time. Be sure to keep your coverage until you understand what you can and cannot do. To learn more details about enrolling in Medigap, call Medicare directly at 800-MEDICARE (800-633-4227).
