Medicare Part B pays for the vaccine that helps protect you against pneumonia for the rest of your life. You can get up to two shots, each targeting a different strain of pneumonia infection, at different times. You pay nothing for the pneumonia shots (no deductible, no copays) if you meet the following conditions: Your initial shot is the first pneumonia shot you’ve ever had through Medicare You have the second shot more than 12 months after the first In the original Medicare program, the shots must be given by a doctor or pharmacist who accepts Medicare assignment — that is, who has agreed to accept the Medicare-approved payment as full reimbursement for providing this service. In a Medicare Advantage plan (such as an HMO or PPO), you must follow your plan’s rules — for example, you may be required to have the shot administered by a doctor within your plan’s provider network.
