Source: Utah's Meyer Picks Gator Over Irish Football Outsiders

December 03, 2004, 2:26 pm ET So Ty Willingham was fired so Notre Dame could hire Urban Meyer? Maybe Notre Dame should have talked to Meyer first. The University of Florida has offered its job to Meyer who reportedly will accept the deal. On Mike and the Mad Dog on WFAN in NY, Mike Francesca, who knows people in Utah from his friendship with Rick Majerus, added some details to the story. According to Francesca, Notre Dame lowballed Meyer on money and refused to lower their academic standards to allow Meyer to recruit better players. Meyer didn't expect to meet such resistance to his plans so he's willing to consider other offers. According to Francesca's source, Meyer still wants to go to Notre Dame, but if they don't work things out he's willing to take the Florida job. What does Notre Dame do if they don't get Meyer? This could be disasterous for them. Update: ESPN's now reporting Meyer has accepted Florida's offer.
