This AARP survey explored the opinions of 500 Kansas small business owners or decision makers about employee benefits. Results show that seven in 10 Kansas small business owners support a privately managed, easy, and low-cost retirement savings option that would help small businesses offer employees a way to save for retirement. Most agree that state lawmakers should support a bill to make it easier for small business owners to access a retirement savings option for their employees and themselves. The majority of all small business owners in Kansas agree also that being able to offer an easy, low-cost retirement savings program helps local small businesses attract and retain quality employees and stay competitive.
More than two-thirds of Kansas small business owners think that more should be done to encourage Kansas residents to save for retirement — with almost half saying a lot more should be done. And nearly three in four (74%) small business owners express concern as taxpayers that some Kansas residents have not saved enough money for retirement and could end up being reliant on public assistance programs.

Methodology br

Interviews were conducted between September 30–October 19, 2021. The sample, including owner names and companies, came from a Data Axle USA list and is weighted using the 2017 Economic Census from the U.S. Census Bureau (based on industry, number of employees, and county) in Kansas with 0–100 additional employees.
