Offseason Discussion: Don't Believe the Hype Football Outsiders

June 29, 2004, 12:29 pm ET We apologize for the lack of new material over the last couple weeks; the NFL is in the slowest period of the year and so are we. Actually, we're busy putting together a lot of new articles for July and August to get everyone ready for the 2004 season, including new additions to our lineup of innovative statistics, the unveiling of the 2000 and 2001 DVOA numbers, and our upgraded special teams system. To help pass the time, along with the quarterback arguments raging over in the thread for Mike's last article, here's another offseason discussion: WHAT PLAYER THAT YOU THOUGHT WAS DESTINED FOR NFL GREATNESS FAILED TO LIVE UP TO EXPECTATIONS? This question is another one suggested by reader Valpro, who notes, " I, personally, bought into the Tony Mandarich hype. I guess there never will be another Anthony Munoz. Then, there's Hershell Walker. USFL doesn't count and he didn't do much in the NFL, except get traded to Minnesota." Where is Hart Lee Dykes these days, anyway? -- Aaron
