Medicaid Expansion Supported by South Carolina Voters 50+ Health and Health Care
A recent AARP survey of South Carolina registered voters ages 50-plus found that a full third believe it is extremely or very likely that they, or someone they know, may lose health care coverage due to cost or job loss. Across party lines, these voters overwhelmingly consider Medicaid an important safety net for themselves and their fellow residents and express strong support for expanding access to those who earn less than $18,000 per year. Favorability toward state lawmakers appears to mirror support for Medicaid expansion, with nearly two-thirds of South Carolina voters saying they would be extremely or very favorable toward a lawmaker who voted to expand Medicaid health care to South Carolina residents who earn under $18,000 a year.
