This hip-hop star and actor found fame in 1986 in the boundary-pushing gangsta rap group N.W.A., whose legacy was captured in the 2015 hit biopic Straight Outta Compton. Ice Cube went on to be a solo artist and actor, making his big-screen debut in 1991’s Boyz n the Hood as gang member Doughboy. He would write the screenplay and star in the 1995 comedy Friday, as well as its two sequels. A fourth and final film, Last Friday, is expected to be released next year to mark the original’s 25th anniversary.

This singer/songwriter, who has sold over 90 million records worldwide, has had at least three lives. Richie began as a part of the funk-infused Commodores in 1968 with hits like “Brick House.” He transformed into a balladeer with love songs such as “Easy” and “Sail On.” The four-time Grammy winner went solo in 1982, and won an Oscar in 1986 for “Say You, Say Me” from White Nights. Richie now judges future stars on TV’s American Idol and is on tour through August.
