Wilma B. Consul has had a long love affair with sound. It started when she trained in radio production at Youth News in Oakland, CA. It blossomed during her many years producing and reporting at NPR in Washington, DC. She radiated most on the field, unearthing stories about culture, community, food and the arts for WETA, WNYC, KQED and WYPR. Also an artist, she indulged in her other passions: dance and food. She received certifications, and worked in fitness, culinary and pastry arts. In 2017, she became a chef instructor at the nation’s first adult charter school. She thought she was done with audio…until 2019, when AARP’s Take on Today found her. In no time, she realized this podcast venture made for a good match.Mike Ellison
Mike Ellison is a creative entrepreneur and multifaceted artist: actor, musician, spoken word performer and public speaker. Mike was born in Ethiopia, raised in Reston, VA and fully realized himself as an interdisciplinary artist in Detroit. He’s released independent records and headlined national community outreach tours, while registering acting credits that span film, theater and television (IMDB Michael D. Ellison). Mike earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Communications from the University of Virginia and has used entertainment as a vehicle to promote charitable initiatives throughout the United States and his birth country. Beyond his own artistic endeavors, Mike serves as a creative strategist and produces original content for a range of companies and organizations. His father, the late journalist Bob Ellison, was the first African-American president of the White House Correspondents’ Association.Show credits
