2019 AARP Community Challenge Grantee - Wichita, Kansas AARP Community Challenge
GRANTEE: To combat social isolation and the digital divide caused by a lack of access to reliable, high-speed internet service — or any internet service — the city government developed a "hotspot lending program." Residents can check out a mobile connectivity device at a Neighborhood Resource Center and use it at home for up to two weeks. An AARP Community Challenge grant was used to purchase 25 hotspot devices and paid for a one-year data package to cover all of the devices in the program. The funds "quick-action" projects that build momentum for local change to improve livability for people of all ages.
