Drugmaker Recalls One Xanax Batch With Potential ' Foreign Substance'

The recall affects one lot of the generic sold between July and August 2019

Jamie Grill/Getty Images Mylan Pharmaceuticals is recalling some of its antianxiety medication alprazolam — the generic form of Xanax — over “the potential presence of foreign substance.” In an on the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) website, the company said it cannot rule out a “rare” but “remote risk of infection to a patient” if the substance is present. The voluntary recall is specific to one lot of alprazolam tablets (USP C-IV 0.5 mg) sold in 500-count bottles with a September 2020 expiration date. The batch (lot number 8082708) was distributed between July and August 2019. FDA product photo for the recalled Alprazolam tablets. So far, there have been no reports of adverse health effects from the recalled batch, Mylan said in its statement.
