Drugmaker Recalls One Xanax Batch With Potential ' Foreign Substance'
The recall affects one lot of the generic sold between July and August 2019
Jamie Grill/Getty Images Mylan Pharmaceuticals is recalling some of its antianxiety medication alprazolam — the generic form of Xanax — over “the potential presence of foreign substance.” In an on the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) website, the company said it cannot rule out a “rare” but “remote risk of infection to a patient” if the substance is present. The voluntary recall is specific to one lot of alprazolam tablets (USP C-IV 0.5 mg) sold in 500-count bottles with a September 2020 expiration date. So far, there have been no reports of adverse health effects from the recalled batch, Mylan said in its statement.
