Vegetable Products Recalled Over Listeria Concerns

Select Trader Joe' s Green Giant Fresh Signature Farms items may be contaminated

GROWERS EXPRESS Select butternut squash, cauliflower, zucchini and veggie bowl products sold at retailers across the U.S. have been voluntarily recalled over concerns of possible Listeria monocytogenes contamination. The manufacturer reported the claim for products processed at its factory in Biddeford, Maine, under brands including Green Giant Fresh, Signature Farms, and . A majority of products were stocked at grocery stores in Massachussets, Connecticut, Pennsylvania and Maine, but also were sold across the U.S. There have been no reported illnesses. "Listeria is an organism that can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems,” says the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) . “Although healthy individuals may suffer short-term symptoms, such as high fever, severe headaches, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea." Most of the products are labeled with a “best if used by” date of June 26 through June 29, 2019. The recall does not include any Green Giant canned or frozen vegetable products, but does include Green Giant Fresh products. "The safety of our consumers is our first priority,” says Tom Byrne, president of Growers Express. “We are deep sanitizing the entire facility and our line equipment, as well as conducting continued testing on top of our usual battery of sanitation and quality and safety tests before resuming production." Consumers who purchased products with the affected sell-by dates or with an unreadable date code are urged to throw them away. The entire list can be viewed .
