2018 AARP Community Challenge Grantee - Honolulu About
GRANTEE: Three shoreline parks within Honolulu’s urban core are located next to or near one another but they’re not connected and both are underutilized. Residents of this area, more than half of whom are over 55, could greatly benefit from connected paths between the parks in order to walk, bicycle and enjoy stunning ocean views. AARP funding was used to create a temporary connection between the parks and host an event to increase the community's interest in a "Lei of Parks." The project demonstrated how inexpensively the area could be enhanced, making the parks more accessible to local residents. The funds “quick-action” projects that build momentum for local change to improve livability for people of all ages.
