This Is What Being Old Looks Like In Hollywood

Old people have long been used as a punchline in Hollywood. Aging is seen as a decline. Aging is seen as a burden. But, in fact, perceptions in real life are changing. Aging is beginning to be viewed as a period of growth. Aging is increasingly seen as a time of new opportunities, and “old,” in fact, can be a fulfilling chapter in life, where older people are contributors and respected leaders. The attitude is changing. And so, slowly, is the movie and TV industry. This one-minute video of rapid-fire lines from films and television shows ageism at its worst — and at its best. Starting with quick cuts of ageist sound bites perpetuating clichés of negative stereotypes, we move toward moments that highlight the new awareness — and the spirit of Disrupt Aging.
