Kansas City Kan tops annual Allstate survey as holiday driving weekend opens
Getty Images Kansas City, Kan., is the city with , according to a new report from insurer Allstate that is based on claims from its customers. The 13th annual Allstate America’s Best Drivers Report lists Brownsville, Texas; Madison, Wis.; Huntsville, Ala.; and Cape Coral, Fla., as its top five safest-driving cities. All had a likelihood for claims that was at least 18 percent less than the national average — with Kansas City, Kan., coming in at 32.8 percent less likely. AARP Membership: At the bottom of the list of 200 cities are (from the bottom up) Boston; Baltimore; Worcester, Mass.; Washington, D.C.; and Springfield, Mass. Boston had a claim likelihood that was 179.6 percent higher than the national average; all five had a claim likelihood that was at least 90 percent above the national average. The insurer also spotlighted improvements in New York, which moved up 27 places from 2016 (but still was 116th). Anchorage, Alaska, moved up even more, jumping 35 spots to No. 34. The study was released earlier this week, a few days before the begins. July 4 is typically the deadliest day of the year on the road for U.S. drivers, according to the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety. “Heading into the holiday weekend, we urge everyone to make safety their No. 1 priority whenever they’re behind the wheel,” Glenn Shapiro, Allstate’s executive vice president of claims, said in a statement announcing the study results.
