Report Home Recognizing the impending demand for long-term care in their state, 84 percent of AARP members in Rhode Island support a new long-term care plan that would expand the services available, provide resources to help consumers find the care they need, and expand financial assistance to help consumers pay for services. A large majority consider “very important” the plan's components that would enable them to be able to choose and receive services at home (84%) and have high-quality nursing home care if needed (81%). Of those favoring the proposed plan, 69 percent say they would support it even if it involved an increase in taxes, and 77 percent of all respondents say that implementing such a long-term care plan should be at least a high priority for the state of Rhode Island. The telephone survey of 800 randomly selected AARP members in Rhode Island was conducted by Woelfel Research, Inc. between May 17 and June 1, 2002. The report was prepared by Katherine Bridges of AARP Knowledge Management who may be contacted at 202/434-6329 for more information.
