Keep the Heat Inside Your Home

AARP Vermont would like Vermont residents to know that Efficiency Vermont has programs aimed at helping Vermont homeowners prepare for the upcoming heating season and save money on their home energy bills all year around. Every year many homeowners are faced with rising energy bills and the temperatures in their homes become uncomfortable in extreme temperatures as the energy efficiency in their homes decrease. Improving the energy efficiency of your home can make you more comfortable - and save you up to 30% on your energy bills. There are various energy efficiency programs that may be able to help.

One of them is made available by Efficiency Vermont which is run by a private nonprofit organization, the Vermont Energy Investment Corporation. Efficiency Vermont provides homeowners with up to $2,500 in incentives, including a $250 audit fee rebate, when you complete energy efficiency improvements through a certified Home Performance with ENERGY STAR contractor.

Home Performance connects contractors that are certified by the Building Performance Institute to perform energy audits, diagnose building problems such as moisture and ice dams, and install the recommended energy efficiency improvements. For certain home improvements, homeowners may also qualify for Federal energy efficiency tax credits.

"Our fuel bills were outrageous! We knew people had worked on improving the insulation of their house and it worked and saved them money. Don't wait another minute. It is well worth doing. We are still evaluating the numbers but it appears our electric and fuel bills have almost been cut in half," Mary and Topper McFaun of Barre excitedly explained.
