About Weddings Late-in-Life Remarriage
My parents had been married for 50 years when my mother passed away at 84 in January 2008. I worried that my father, 80, would fall into a depression until he met a 68-year-old lady who had never been married or had children. When they agreed to marry, her father—yes, I said her FATHER—who was 95, walked his daughter down the aisle for the first time while I stood by my father’s side, thanking God that my father was getting a second chance at happiness. My dad might not be able to give his new bride 50 years, but they just celebrated their second wedding anniversary. And the father of the bride will celebrate his 98th birthday next month.
