AARP Universities Offer Day of Fun Information

Americans are living longer, and one of the best ways to get the most out of life is by having the right information. Because AARP is the source to which many Alabamians age 50+ look for information, AARP created “AARP University.”

AARP Universities are day-long, free events designed to offer a variety of fun and educational classes to help Alabamians 50+ live life to the fullest. And, they may be the only place where participants can learn about the “Art of Wearing a Hat” and “What is in the New Health Care Law” in one place and in one day.

AARP is hosting AARP Universities in Montgomery and Birmingham in August and September, and others will be added throughout the state in the upcoming months. The University schedule will be updated as events are added, so .

In Montgomery, AARP University is Thursday, August 19, at Frazer Memorial United Church, 6000 Atlanta Hwy.

The Birmingham event is September 23 at the Sheraton Hotel, 2101 Richard Arrington Jr Blvd North.

Each event follows a similar schedule. Participants start the day with registration at 8 a.m. and a free continental breakfast, followed by a group opening session.

Throughout the day, participants may choose from a variety of breakout sessions. Those sessions will include, among others, classes on dancing, budgeting and careful investing.

Participants may also take advantage of a number of health screenings, which will be offered free or at a nominal charge.

Exhibitors, non-profit groups, and government agencies will also be on hand. Participants will have the opportunity to learn more about these exhibitors and the information they have to share.
