Illinois state-funded long-term care services are an important issue for IL AARP members, according to a recent AARP random-sample telephone survey in which nearly all IL members (91%) support increasing funding for services that would help people to remain in their own homes or other home-like settings. Of the IL AARP members surveyed... 83 percent say it is extremely or very important to be able to stay at home as long as possible, if they or a family member became ill or disabled and needed long-term care. 67 percent strongly support IL State establishing a goal to provide enough assistance to older adults to allow them to remain in their homes as long as possible. 70 percent or more say it is extremely or very important to provide statewide home and community-based services, including transportation services, assistance to family caregivers, community-based group day programs and assistance with taking medication. 52% are more likely to support an elected official who works to give people more long-term care options, even if it means having to generate additional state revenue. 71 percent say they always vote and another 17 percent say they vote most of the time. This translates into approximately 1.2 million members that always vote, and more than 285 thousand that vote most of the time. This telephone survey of 801 randomly selected Illinois AARP members was conducted for AARP by Woelfel Research, Inc. from December 12 through December 22, 2006.
