AARP Member Opinion Research

This and Related Reports

This mail survey, conducted by AARP in April-June 2003, investigated the views of 1,197 AARP members in Pennsylvania concerning long-term care and related issues. Some of the key findings are as follows: Most Pennsylvania members have not discussed their preferences for long term care with family members.
Most of the members think it would be difficult to find long-term care they could afford.
Most of the members support AARP's advocacy for programs designed to allow people to stay in their own homes as they age.
About 7 in 10 Pennsylvania members are not confident they would be able to afford the cost of nursing home care for even 1 year.
Cost is the top reason the members do not purchase long-term care insurance. This report was prepared by Katherine Bridges and David Cicero of Knowledge Management, AARP.
