2014 Caring for Yourself and Your Family Opinions & Experiences of South Carolina Registered Voters Age 45 and Older

This and Related Reports

(Full Report, PDF) The majority of South Carolina voters age 45 and older are providing care, previously provided care, or are likely to provide unpaid caregiving assistance for a relative, friend, spouse, or partner to help their loved one live independently at home. They believe it is important to have home and community based services available and in their communities. South Carolina voters age 45 and older believe that it is important to increase funding for these services as most are not confident that they could afford one year of care in nursing homes or assisted living facilities. Additionally, services such as having information about caregiving, help with chores/meals and getting a break from caregiving is helpful to respondents. The 2014 AARP South Carolina Caregiving Survey was conducted through telephone interviews with a sample of 800 registered voters ages 45 and older drawn at random from the state of South Carolina. The interviews were conducted in English by RDD Field Services from February 22nd through March 2, 2014. The combined 800 interviews from the study were weighted by age and gender for South Carolina’s registered voters 45+. This report is based on 817 weighted responses.
