The Clearinghouse for Home and Community Based Services (HCBS) website has one simple function: to provide planners with as many resources and tools as possible in research, policy and program development related to home and community based services. By doing so, it hopes to facilitate aging in place and community initiatives. Planners will want to bookmark the site due to the sheer volume of information and resources.

Community planners will be elated to discover that HCBS search functions are intuitive and comprehensive, allowing planners to drill down to resources pertinent to them. One can access by type, source, topic, or state. There are thousands of documents and resources available.

State by state search filtering is facilitated two ways: either by map (top) or by advanced search options (left). This means planners can get to the information they need that is closest to them geographically. Other search features include Topic, Type/Tool (announcements, applications for funding, archived conference presentations, audio/video resources, comparison table/matrix/chart, compendia, data, etc. and a tools section including assessments, checklists, contacts, manuals, etc.), and Source (featuring those institutions from which many resources are pulled).
A “My Library” feature enables planners to keep an ongoing online personal library full of policy papers or initiatives, reducing the amount of time wasted trying to find and manage resources.

Planners ready to search for policy and planning resources should first create a My Library account so they can save papers (many are available in pdf format) for easy access later. There is also a “highlights” section on the homepage (bottom right) for quick access to topical resources. Those interested in sources or HCBS affiliations should head to Sources link (on left) and then to the About link (bottom left).
