Overview

Increasing energy efficiency of existing homes through modest home improvements, called “weatherization,” can dramatically reduce utility costs for homeowners. Low-income families can achieve an annual savings of about 21 percent, or $400 per year, on their energy bills by reducing the energy consumption of their home. To explore this option, AARP has created a fact sheet introducing the health and economic benefits associated with weatherizing homes as well as the challenges related to implementing energy-efficient modifications.
