The combined effort, involving about 60 volunteers from AARP, Enterprise Rent-A-Car, XEROX, The Real Gift Foundation and Brown and Caldwell, involved stuffing 5000 backpacks with school supplies and hygiene items and delivering them to elementary and middle schools throughout Phoenix. A total of 70 schools received backpacks for their students.
On August 24, AARP volunteers and staff helped distribute backpacks to kids at Bethune Elementary School, Dunbar School and the Montecito Community School.
“It was a great and rewarding experience to be a part of this effort,” said Donna Cox, Senior Office Administrator for AARP Arizona. “The children were very grateful and we knew we were doing something meaningful that would help them at school. The effort was also a part of Create the Good, in which we encourage community service opportunities like this throughout the state.”
