AARP, our members and volunteers believe that no one of any age should go hungry or choose between putting food on the table and paying for life-saving medications. is a multi-year commitment to solve the problem of hunger in older Americans. This innovative collaboration with four-time NASCAR Sprint Cup Champion Jeff Gordon and team owner Rick Hendrick is designed to engage and inspire NASCAR fans and America’s leading companies and organizations to help solve the problem of hunger in America.
AARP South Dakota is collaborating with several local organizations to put food on the table for older South Dakotans. First, we’ve teamed up with and in Sioux Falls, which serves as the senior nutrition center for the area. Starting in early June, Feeding South Dakota will have collection barrels available Active Generations in Sioux Falls where you can place non-perish able food items that will be distributed to local seniors in need. Additionally, food drives will take place at senior meals locations in Alcester, Beresford, Bridgewater, Canton, Centerville, Chancellor, Chester, Dell Rapids, Garretson, Hartford, Hudson, Lennox, Montrose, Parker, Salem and Tea. Just a can or two can make a big difference.
Then, visitors headed to the can join the effort. Collection tubs will be at all of the admission gates at the State Fair Sept. 5. Anyone bringing a non-perishable food item to any gate will get $1 off the admission price. Stock car races are scheduled for that evening.
