Advocacy Volunteers Needed

AARP has been at the forefront of the call for change in Washington with its well- publicizedDivided We Failmovement. Staff and volunteers have been calling for changes promoting affordable health care and financial security. While AARP has traditionally been a powerful force in Congress, it is even more important now that AARP mobilize its 40 million members—2.4 million of them in Texas—effectively. AARP is seeking volunteers in each Congressional district to make continued change happen both in Washington and in Austin. The organization is looking for volunteers who will agree to remain in contact with their own members of Congress and state legislators, sharing AARP’s views on important issues. District volunteers can put their lifetime of experience and wide range of knowledge to continue this call for change. District volunteers will be trained and asked to remain in touch with their members of Congress and state legislators locally, lead an expanded volunteer delegation to their offices on issues of key importance, or assist with other activities in that district. These volunteers will solidify AARP’s presence in that community and will become the “face of AARP” with lawmakers.
