Library of Congress Honors AARP Kentucky as Veterans History Project Founding Partner
Veterans History Project is part of the American Folklife Center in the Library of Congress and its mission for the last 10 years has been to collect, preserve, and make available the personal accounts of American war veterans. The project has permanently saved this national history for future generations to hear directly from veterans and better understand the realities of war.
Kentucky volunteers have worked statewide since VHP launched interviewing veterans and sending their stories to the Library of Congress. The project has captured thousands of Kentucky veterans’ stories and continues telling the nation’s history. One AARP chapter member in east Kentucky, Don Rose, also received national recognition for his work collecting more than 200 veterans’ stories.
Congress created the Veterans History Project in 2000 seeking to preserve and share the human experience from military service. VHP is the largest oral-history collection in the United States.
Originally funded by the U.S. Congress with a grant from AARP (VHP’s only corporate sponsor), the project now has over 68,000 stories archived in the Library of Congress. Read more on .

As Americans paused to observe Memorial Day, the Library of Congress' Veterans History Project (VHP) continues celebrating its 10th Anniversary. VHP has planned national and local events, activities and initiatives during 2010 to mark its 10th Anniversary.
