New Hampshire Senior Leadership Series Announces Class of 2010
After a state-wide search, these organizations chose 21 activists interested in advocating for older adults in New Hampshire. The inaugural class of 2010 will receive eight months of training on a wide variety of topics, such as the history of aging and aging services; creating livable communities for aging populations; the legislative process; and community engagement. About the Participants Through a competitive application process, AARP New Hampshire and collaborators selected 21 people who represent a wide array of backgrounds and ages. They were selected on the basis of their motivation to become well-informed about and active in policymaking and systems of change for aging New Hampshire citizens. The selected participants are: Sandra Amlaw, Hudson Marilyn “Willy” Black, Hanover Alan Cohen, Nashua Virginia Crowe, Piermont Ellen Curelop, Nashua Peter Desautels, Nashua Pauline Desautels, Nashua Carol Early, Stratham Chuck Engborg, Ashland Bob Giffin, Nottingham Vivien Green, Manchester Dan Hockaday, Nashua Harvey Keye, Nashua Sheila King, Strafford Amy Newbury, Laconia Marlene Ostrowski, Tamworth Karla Roth, Canterbury Linda Steir, Atkinson Joan Stevens, Goffstown Maureen Stimpson, Contoocook Constance Young, Salem Upon completion of the New Hampshire Senior Leadership Series, this newly-formed network of advocates for aging issues will represent a strong, cohesive voice for the residents of New Hampshire. In coming years, AARP New Hampshire and collaborating agencies will continue to offer the annual New Hampshire Senior Leadership Series to amplify the voices across the Granite State. New Hampshire residents are growing gray, faster than in most other states. With an aging population come many financial and societal challenges such as long-term care, transportation, housing, and health care. And many of these issues will guide the state’s legislative agenda for years to come. Building a state-wide corps of volunteers to advocate on these issues will be critical to the quality of life for all in New Hampshire as they age. And that is why the New Hampshire Senior Leadership Series was founded.
