AARP Arkansas Recognizes Bettye Carter Johnson
Johnson has served as Vice President of the AARP Pine Bluff Chapter, led a very successful membership drive and represented Arkansas at several AARP conventions. Johnson is also the Public Affairs Director for the American Red Cross’ Southeast Arkansas Chapter, President of the Shepherd’s Center of Pine Bluff Board of Directors, Jefferson County Extension Homemakers Council Secretary, and Secretary/Treasurer of the District 2 Arkansas Highway and Transportation Department Retirees Association. She serves on the Board of Directors for the Pine Bluff/Jefferson County Economic Opportunities Commission and Jenkins Center Industries as well as serving on the Advisory Board for Jefferson County RSVP, the Pine Bluff Clean and Beautiful Commission and the United Way Allocation Committee.
Being honored for her community service is not new to Johnson. She was named Volunteer of the Year by both Trinity Village Medical Center and the Red Cross.
“The work of volunteers like Bettye helps make AARP Arkansas programs and services possible,” said State Director Maria Reynolds-Diaz. “We are honored to have such dedicated members interested in helping AARP and their communities. Arkansas is fortunate to have individuals such as Bettye who exemplify our motto ‘To Serve, Not Be Served’.”
The Distinguished Service Award winner is nominated by their peers and voted on by a special selection committee consisting of AARP Arkansas volunteer leaders.

AARP Arkansas recently awarded Bettye Carter Johnson with a Distinguished Service Award during its annual Andrus Award and Volunteer Recognition Ceremony.
